  1. No. The portal is opened with a secure link unique to that client.

A client portal exists to answer the question clients ask most often — "what do I owe you?" — without either of you sending an email about it.

What clients actually want to see

  • Every invoice you have issued them, paid and unpaid, in one list.
  • What is currently outstanding and when it is due.
  • A way to pay right now, without transcribing account details.
  • Receipts for what they have already paid, which is what their own accountant will ask them for.

Notice how much of that is administrative rather than relational. Every one of those questions currently arrives as a message someone has to answer manually, usually at the least convenient moment.

Why it changes the payment conversation

Chasing payment is uncomfortable because it feels like a personal request. A portal makes the outstanding balance a shared fact rather than an assertion, which changes the tone of the follow-up entirely: you are pointing at a record, not making a claim.

It also removes the most common stalling answer — "send me the invoice again" — because the invoice never stopped being available.

What it should not do

A portal should not require the client to create an account. Every credential you ask for is a reason not to pay today. A per-client link that opens directly to their own records is the whole feature; anything more is friction protecting information the client already has.
