ereQa for South Africa
South Africa is on the ereQa waitlist, but Nigerian businesses bill Johannesburg and Cape Town every day. SARS is prescriptive about what a tax invoice must contain, and an invoice missing a field costs your client their input VAT.
We'll email you the moment ereQa goes live in your region.

ereQa has not launched in South Africa yet — the pricing below is what it will cost, and the waitlist is how you hear when it opens. Invoicing a South African client from Nigeria you can do today, and SARS is more prescriptive than any other authority on this list about what the document must contain.
A valid South African tax invoice must show all of the following. This is not stylistic — an invoice missing a required field is not a valid tax invoice, and your client cannot claim the input VAT on it.
As a Nigerian supplier you will not be showing South African VAT, but the structural requirements — sequential numbering, both parties identified, itemised description, unambiguous totals — are exactly what makes your invoice usable at their end.
| Charge | Rate | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| VAT | 15% | Compulsory registration above R1m taxable supplies over 12 months |
| Corporate income tax | 27% | Standard rate |
| Small Business Corporation | 0–27% | Reduced sliding scale where the qualifying tests are met |
| Personal income tax | 18–45% | Progressive bands |
Zero-rated as an export of services: 0% Nigerian VAT, input VAT still reclaimable. Your South African client handles any import VAT obligation under their own rules. State the export treatment on the invoice.
EFT is the backbone of South African business-to-business payment, with instant EFT and card common for smaller amounts. Paystack and Flutterwave both operate in South Africa, and Stripe is realistic where the client is used to card.
Rand is volatile enough that the currency you invoice in is a commercial decision rather than a formality. Billing in dollars moves the exposure to the client; billing in rand keeps it with you and may win the work.
